Ive never been a big fan of walking. I know that’s a ridiculous thing to say when I’ve just signed up for the 3-peaks challenge but I’ve always been much more of a football-er, a cricket-er and a justaboutanysportIcantrymyhandat-er. However when I was asked whether I wanted to take part, and I went away and thought about it, the challenge of setting out and doing something that no-one though I could, and silencing those doubters was hard to resist.

I want to achieve, and anything worth achieving takes hard work. Henry Ford once said that “There is no happiness except in the realization that you have accomplished something”. The 3 peaks challenge is exactly that, a challenge, a very difficult challenge at that…… for the person I was, mentally and physically when my training started at the beginning of the year. But goals are what life is about, indeed goals are the fuel in the furnace of achievement.

I have no doubt whatsoever that the challenge of climbing these 3 hills in 24 hours is going to be ridiculously difficult, with pain, the weather, angry locals, angry animals and quite possibly angry fellow group members all conspiring against me but that’s all part of it. Everyone can do things which are easy, and this aint meant to be. So when im struggling up that 3rd mountain, soaking wet at 3 o’clock in the morning, il think back to something I was once told by a wise old man.
“He who never suffers setbacks hasn’t set his goals high enough.”

About Me
I am currently working in Salisbury as a butcher and as a barman, although my passion is following my beloved Salisbury City Football Club all over the country. It gives me enormous pride every time I pull on a white shirt and represent my club as a player for the SCFC Supporters team.

In the summer of 2011 I organised a football tournament, involving the SCFC supporters team, in memory of a former Salisbury City FC player, who had died aged just 20 of a heart attack the previous year. The 1st Nelson Monhon Memorial Tournament resulted in a donation of over £300 to the “Cardiac Risk in the Young” charity and the 2nd tournament is planned for May this year.

In the very few hours a week when I’m not working, asleep or at the RayMac, I can usually be found in the gym or with a couple of mates in a beer garden somewhere enjoying a nice cold pint.
As a team, we have decided that we will be doing the 3 peaks challenge to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, who provide support and try to make things a little easier for both cancer sufferers and their families.

So that’s all from me, if you have been inspired by what the walking warriors are doing, or by any stories from the team then please donate, even if you can only afford a few pounds to this worthwhile cause.

I really enjoyed both walks, with some really nice scenery and some brilliant music on my ipod and just possibly a pub on each trek!!
